About the Foundation
After 20 years of existence, the Bruny Surin Foundation is celebrating all the work it has accomplished and wishes to amplify its impact. Going forward, the foundation will focus on creating inclusive and unifying spaces in schools, to create environments that will enable all young people to discover and enjoy the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
In 2004, Bruny Surin established the Foundation with the aim of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among young people to prevent school dropouts. Since then, the organization has awarded over $1,625,000 in scholarships to elite and top student-athletes, supported young soccer players, visited schools to give inspirational talks, and funded introductory athletics activities in Quebec schools.

Over time, Bruny Surin began to wonder how he could extend the reach of his mission to ensure as many young people as possible could access the benefits of physical and mental health. As we researched how to do that, it became clear that before we could even think about sports, we needed to ensure that all young people’s basic needs were met. This is how the Foundation’s new orientation was born: we ensure school aged kids’ fundamental needs are met, and that they have access to sports, in order to build a world where all young people have access to the same opportunities to reach their full potential.
